I’m Hattie, a tea drinking Graphic Designer living and working in Southampton.&nbsp; I have always taken great inspiration from the environments I have spent time in. I enjoy responding in different ways through words, images and print making, creating varied, often colourful, outcomes.&nbsp;&nbsp;I am a people person and love collaborating with others in the design process. This was something I thrived on as a member of our Degree Show Fundraising Team. This involved organising paid, ticketed talks with industry, communicating with the team and our year group. We also organised a very successful virtual print auction which raised over £7000 alone. Team work was a vital part of organising the degree show, especially as a lot of the organisation had to be done over Zoom. Previous relevant employment history: September 2021- Present Twinkl Educational Publishing - Graphic Design Internship Creating engaging resources for children of all ages. Working across international teams.&nbsp; January 2022- Present Graphic Design Suffolk Open Studios Developing easily implementable brand guidelines to enhance their brand across digital and print.&nbsp; March 2020- March 2021 Planet Bee Magazine Manchester - Graphic Designer Working for a Science magazine enabled the development of many industry specific skills including communication and time management.Communication skills were utilised to keep in contact with the editors, authors and illustrators; a particularly important aspect given the current circumstances of the pandemic. It was an invaluable experience to be part of the design of a magazine from concept to print. The use of Adobe Indesign and Illustrator were vitally important. Summer 2016 Travel Photographer of the Year Exhibition Greenwich -&nbsp;Exhbition Attendant The role encompassed various responsibilities including assisting with setting up the exhibits. Over the course of the exhibition I also interactedwith the customers about the photographs whilst ensuring the space remained presentable. Summer 2014, Summer 2015 Cotton Tree Interiors Suffolk - Studio Assistant I undertook this work experience which developed into a part time summer job. It gave me a good insight into the design process and led me to pursuing a design career. The role included ordering fabrics, general administration, working alongside other members of the company on client visits and communicating with suppliers and walk in customers. This boosted my confidence when talking to people of all ages. I was also involved in developing schemes for rooms which required attention to detail and understanding relations with colour.I undertook work experience at Clays, one of the leading book printers in the UK, an invaluable experience to understand print processes and what designers ask of printers!&nbsp; I have also had several public-facing jobs such as in hospitality and as a Student Ambassador for the university over the course of my studies. Built around 1810, the mill was grinding corn until 1949. The structure and function of the mill has formed the basis of this experimental typeface that celebrates the history of this ‘fine specimen’ of a windmill. The typeface, ‘Postmill’, has been created by drawing from photographs taken at the windmill. Characters with stripes echo the wooden slats on the buck of the mill. The shuttered sails and blue fantail have also inspired many of the glyphs. Given the complexity and variety of architectural forms of the mill there are several alternate characters for most letters. This also allows for many combinations of glyphs, echoing the intricate systems involved in the mill. The numerals are all striped to give some added structure to the typeface. Too often ‘OCD’ is thrown around as an adjective because it is misunderstood. 50% of mental health problems are established by the age of 14 so it vital we educate high school pupils appropriately.OCD Unfolded provides a start to finish lesson ‘pack’ which can be taught in a longer lesson or across 5 shorter lessons. Each pupil receives a pack containing 5 activity sheets to fold. The teacher will also receive the scripted presentation slides in their pack along with filled in activity sheets. There are 5 ‘types’ of OCD so each will be communicated via different methods of folding paper. I created easy to follow brand guidelines that they can easily implement themselves. The Members’ Exhibition is the first exhibition they have held. The iconic shape of the Snape Maltings Concert Hall has been used to mark the location of the exhibition. For future exhibitions this can also be done to create individual identities for each exhibtion, whilst still being in keeping with the brand. The books are printed on 200gsm natural cartridge paper. They are all bound differently to enhance the idea that each walk evoked different thoughts and observations. Making these books in the midst of a lockdown was very challenging yet rewarding. I learnt a lot about unconvential ways of book binding using the restrictions of an A4 printer to my advantage. <img width="1086" height="724" width_o="1086" height_o="724"
